Now, HP has changed the Student ID against HP learner which is not as easy to get.

I didn’t get this part. Can you talk in a bit detail?

  24. check the following url which tells the certification at HP Software Universe in Vienna next week.

    http://h41112.www4.hp.com/events/su2008/certificationlab.php?kmfsession=95e2ae687882d6cd24b92994caa601ef

When you click the “HP learner ID” in the above URL you’ll go to a site intended for HP Partner. I am an employee of a company which is HP customer.

  26. As I wrote earlier, you need HP Learner ID instead of the HP Student ID.
A very recent news is that HP has changed the website in which you search for HP Learner ID so that you can register as an independent student if you are not a HP partner.

I really want so shift my career into testing services. But Im cluless about what would be the way forward. Can anyone pls suggest me how to start with,

  45. Aadithya on Thu, 16th Jul 2009 11:57 am
  46. Hy Sibi

Welcome to the world of Testing!
Be sure why you want to make that move.
Even i was in the same state about 6 years back. Today I respect my decision.

My recomendations for you are as below.
    1. Study atleast first 5 chapters from book “The Art of Software Testing” by Glenford Myers
    2. Do CSTP ot CSTE (Certified Software Test Professional) or (Certified Software Test Engineer) certifications. Indirectly you will be made to learn all fundamentals of Testing.
    3. Learn some HP Mercury testing tools like Quality Center, Quick Test Professional. Atleast learn a Defect Managment tool and claim it in your CV.

I think by the time you do the above, you will know the Road ahead by yourself and may be able to suggest others in your similar situation like you, !!….

Wish you All the very Best! Please feel free to contact me for any additional questions.

  48. im planning to learn load runner . im in bit confusion from where i have to start and i need a clear material to prepare. please any of u suggest me

  49. Aadithya on Mon, 14th Sep 2009 8:52 am
  50. Yes Raji, you might be confused because you find lot of material.
Don’t worry, most of them are repitetive kind of them from HP Mercury. For example Tutorial and User Guide.

Ok. Here is how you can start with.
    1. Install Loadrunner
    2. Focus in Virtual User Generator. This is the component where scripting it done.
    3. Use inbuilt Task pane in Loadrunner which instructs the steps in developing
    Loadrunner test script.
    4. Use demo application or any other available to you
    5. Start Recording scripts, running scripts, correlating scripts, parameterizing
    data values
    6. Open Loadrunner Help and refer when you get a doubt.
    7. If you have a little of c lang. progg. experience it is an advantage. But not
    necessary.
    8. Once your Script is running without errors in Virtual user generator, run it
through Controller and analyze in Analysis. Follow Help here also. They are
    relatively much easier.

Please consult me if you still have questions or trouble in following this approach.
Note: Focus on correlation techniques, this is very important topic for you to succeed in scripting. Wish you All the very Best!!!

  52. Aadithya,

Very useful information. I have about 3+yrs of experiene in Manual and Load testing using load runner. I need couple of informations from you,

    1. IS CSTE the most recognized / preferred certification or ISTQB in IT organizations? Since i am planning to do some certifications.

    2. AIS -HP Performance Center v9 , what kind of preparation is required, is it enough if we read the Load runner documents pertaining to VUGEN and CONTROLLER

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Devi

  54. Hello – Was wondering if you could help clarify something…

In the PDF for the ASE- HP Performance Center v9 Certification, the following appears:

This is a proctored, performance-based exam. During the exam, you
will be provided with a virtual lab environment that contains VuGen and a
sample Web site, to perform activities referred by exam questions.

Is this a full VuGen installation with the Help file available for reference during the exam as well? Or are you expected to complete the exam without Referencing Help?

    Any info is appreciated!

  55. Aadithya on Thu, 1st Oct 2009 9:17 am
  56. Hy Devi

    1. I am not sure which is most recognized/preferred. As I understand any certifications have common/same value. Because nobody is just going to accept you based on certifcations. They will again assess your credentials using written test or interview.

2.Referring HELP topics for Vugen, Controller and Analysis for those specific exam sections would help. Also try to solve some practice tests/ mock tests/exam papers if you can get from internet sites.
